Unlike the subject of a traditional portrait, who typically faces us directly and reveals her story as she pleases, the reading woman remains an enigma. This calendar s twelve images by sixteenth- to twentieth-century European artists invite you to imagine the details of the reading woman s experience. Each is accompanied by a quote or literary excerpt on the subject of books and reading. Artists represented are Maria Konstantinova Bashkirtseva, Ambrosius Benson, Georges Croegaert, Carl Vilhelm Holsøe, Robert Hope, Edward Killingworth Johnson, August Macke, Thomas Pole (attributed), Valentine Cameron Prinsep, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and Marianne Stokes.
Size: 12 x 13 in.; opens to 12 x 26 in. 5 customer reviews Yearly purchase. October 18, 2008 I have bought this calendar each year, for many years, for my daughter who is a college professor and a member of the English department. The quality of the selections has always been excellent and it is the calendar that she uses in her office. It gets better every year. January 14, 2008 I really like this product. This is the 2nd year that I have bought this and the pictures are not the same. I did not realize that there were so many pictures of woman reading in art. It is a metal spiral bound so it will lay flat and there is a month overview plus day to day pages. Devoted Readers. January 1, 2008 Words and image combine in this calendar to create an homage to reading and women who read. The words are quotations from know authors such as Gertrude Stein ("Writing and reading is to me synonymous with existing"), and the images are mostly pictures of oils by equally known painters such as Mary Cassatt ("Mrs. Duffee Seated on a Striped Sofa Reading")--2007 calendar.
The calendar measures 12" wide by 13" length (26" open). Dates are in roomy 1 1/2" squares, and all special days are noted. I have used this calendar for three years straight now. My husband gave me my first "The Reading Women," and I liked it so well that I could not part with it. Lucky for me, I did not have to because it has not ceased publication. Classic Calendar. September 24, 2007 A great gift for the women in your life who love to read. It has many works by lesser known artists of the 19th/20th centuries and the prints may be framed for continued enjoyment. This is NOT a wall calendar.... September 7, 2007 I wish the product description would have mentioned this product's format. It is an "engagement calendar" --- a spiral bound book-type calendar. The artwork is very nice, but I was shopping for a wall calendar. |

People magazine has dubbed Mary Engelbreit a Norman Rockwell for our times. For 2009, let Mary Engelbreit's calendar brighten your day, every day. Mary Engelbreit's purse calendar, Am I Supposed to Be Somewhere? is a favorite of busy women everywhere. Packaged in its own slipcase to prevent torn pages, it is small enough to fit into a purse or tote. This 32-page month-at-a-glance calendar features monthly planning grids combined with Mary's signature artwork. At the back you'll find a place for recording names and numbers and a perforated notes section so you can jot down meetings, appointments, even grocery lists and take them with you. 3 customer reviews Not What We're Used To!. November 26, 2008 I agree wholeheartedly with the other 1-star reviewer. I have been using the ME hardback weekly planner with the elastic placeholder forever, and just ordered this without even looking at it assuming it would be the same as always. It's definitely not! It's flimsy with nothing to hold your place. And I HATE the month-at-a-time format. If ME had requests for a monthly planner, why not make one in addition to the tried-and-true weekly planner? Why get rid of the weekly one? Now I'll have to search around for a planner that will meet my needs the way ME's old one did, because I definitely won't be using this one! I thank you from the bottom of my heart.... September 23, 2008 ...for going back to this format for the purse size planner. I had to buy non-ME ones last year and this year because I NEED the month-at-a glance format. I am so happy it's back :-) Be aware..... July 30, 2008 This is NOT the hard back, elastic closure, weekly planner that you're used to. It's a soft back, monthly, tucked in a cardbord open top box. I'm quite disappointed having searched all over the Mary Engelbreit pages looking for my tried and true weekely 'Breit Days purse sized weekly calendar. So disappointing.

November 17, 2008 item reviewed: Star Wars: The Clone Wars 2009 Calendar 994078
I've never reviewed a calendar before, but I really enjoy the visuals on this SW offering. Bright, rich, vivid colors to lighten one's mood in the morning. The characters are large and can be clearly seen from a good distance away, which is nice if you have it up at work where I do. Several images of classic SW characters to please even the original-trilogy fans: Jabba, C-3P0, R2-D2, Yoda. The wood-sculpted look of Count Dooku is nicely presented too. A happy purchase to brighten even this most-jaded Star Wars fan's day! |
