Great reference (2009-02-25)
A great, ongoing reference where most of the date specific material applies to every year. I'm still using an outdated one at work, and I bought this one for my home use.
Fantastic Reference Tool for Homeschooling (2009-02-20)
I have already recommended this book to countless friends and professionals. This book is well-loved. :) My 4th gr. son and I recently began our homeschooling adventures together. We have always supplemented his education with extracurricular topics, and went on a search for books to assist us this year. Lo and behold, we found our "Book of Books!"
Every weekend, we look at important events or interesting facts which are listed for the following week (or month as the case may be). We love the extra footnote reference tools they suggest, such as additional books, websites, movies, etc to check out which then furthers our studies and increases his (and my!)knowledge. The tangent studies we have gone off and done because of these suggestions have been fun!
It is simply amazing to use, and has far more than I expected. So many facts, almost so little time ;) It has a very handy and thorough index of subjects, and appendix-style tools such as information about the US presidents, state governments, and four of our favorites: Holidays, American Library Association, Caldecott and Newberry Award Winning Books. We look at our favorites regularly for fun days to plan, or interesting/thought-provoking/beautiful books to investigate and read independently or together.
Should the day come when he is re-enrolled in a traditional school, we will still be purchasing the book for the relevant year, and keep learning neat things about the day/week/month, as well as the world around is. HIGHLY recommended.
Teaches more than facts (2008-09-23)
I love these calendars..I buy one every year now. I type up calendars for each month of what we are doing, and for empty days, or weekends, I add the facts and informatio from this book. Last year, when they discovered it was Blue Ribbon week for Child Abuse awareness, my kids planned, implemented, and succeed in fundraising for the local shelter. I teach English I Honors, and while many of them are proactive anyway, giving them a direction in which to travel helps a lot. Websites and other important information is listed with each entry, and a lot of my kids have learned more about the world outside of their small town just through this exposure.

Humorous and useful academic claendar (2008-05-13)
A year full of stress-buster laughs is what all teachers need. This is a well-drawn colorful cartoon calendar for educators. The full page humorous artwork, by a New Yorker cartoonist, makes a great gift for all educators. The calendar runs August 2008 through the school year to July 2009. I purchased a few for end-of-term gift giving and kept one for myself. I am a teacher and the calendar will be on the wall, behind my desk, all school year long. Sometimes a teacher needs a laugh to break the tension.
