$24.99This comprehensive book explains in lucid, assured terms how to practice the fertility awareness method (FAM), a natural, scientifically proven but little-known form of birth control (which is not to be confused with the woefully ineffective "rhythm" method). Author Toni Weschler has been teaching fertility awareness for almost 20 years, and it's only just now gaining in popularity. As the book explains, by using simple fertility signs including peaks in morning body temperature and changes in cervical position and cervical mucus, it's possible to determine when ovulation is taking place. Fertility awareness is therefore useful for not only couples who are trying to conceive, but for those who are aiming to avoid pregnancy without the use of chemical contraceptives. It will be of special interest to those women who have suffered from infertility; many FAM practitioners have told the author that by filling in the detailed charts in the book, they've realized that they were chronically miscarrying, even when their doctors told them they weren't conceiving at all. As the book explains, by charting body temperature, it's simple to tell when pregnancy has occurred--and when there's danger of miscarriage. Taking Charge of Your Fertility also explains how to choose the sex of your baby by timing intercourse according to certain fertility signs. It also features thorough, easy-to-understand explanations of hormones, the menstrual cycle, and menopause, along with fertility tests and treatments and their long- and short-term side effects, plus a topnotch resource section. Recommended for any woman who wants to better understand her body. --Erica Jorgensen

Very Informative (2010-03-08)
Great book. It's nice to know that I don't have to use birth control which has way to many side effects. This natural method is pretty low key and in many ways empowering.
Absolutely worked for us, can't recommend enough! (2010-03-01)
I can't recommend this book enough, whether you are trying to conceive or avoid pregnancy. I wish every girl was taught this information growing up. As a woman, you should know what's going on with your body, including what's normal and what's not! This book really does put you in charge.
I read the book in May 2009 and began charting that month, in the hopes of conceiving our first. We charted three cycles and ta-da! We got pregnant in July 2009 and are expecting our daughter in 5 short weeks now. The book and the method it describes have taught me so much and I'm so grateful I found it when I did. Don't wait until you've been trying without success for 6 months to a year. Get this book and give it a try. It can only help you. It certainly changed our lives!
Good luck!
How did I not know this before??? (2010-02-28)
I just finished this book and I have a few thoughts:
1) How was I not taught about fertility? I am a sexually active 38 yo woman with an Ivy league education. I read the NY Times. I Google everything. How did I not know what cervical fluid was and how it related to my own fertility? I am so grateful to the author for the education.
2) The feminist undertones of this book may be off putting to some.
3) The 10th anniversary edition was published in 2006 - 4 years ago. Much has changed. Women I know are indeed freezing their eggs. And vaginal sonograms are the norm.
4) I appreciate the overview of procedures, HOWEVER, please note that an HSG is perhaps the most pain you will ever experience outside of childbirth. I don't know why the author did not mention this in the description. After taking 12 advil and a vicoden before the procedure, i was still screaming bloody murder and worse.
Before you use fertility drugs, read this book!!!!! It works! (2010-02-22)
This was probably the greatest gift I ever received. I read and followed this book's charts for two months after trying to conceive for 2+ years. I thought I knew everything I needed to and was exhausted of hoping. I had already filled a prescription for the fertility drug Clomid & was waiting for my next cycle to start to take it. Well, I was already pregnant!!!! This book works. I swear I knew the day I conceived but still wasn't convinced---I am now!!!!!
Very informative (2010-02-21)
I purchased this book because I wanted to be proactive in trying to become pregnant. This book is so helpful and informative! I finally have a better understanding of my cycle and Basal Body Temperature charting!

A choice pick for those who plan for the worst wisely (2010-03-12)
A wise man realizes he isn't immortal. "Estate Planning Smarts: A Practical, User-Friendly, Action-Oriented Guide" is a guide for those who want to plan a wise will to be followed after they pass on, to help with the chaos that is normally associated with inheritance. From the power of attorney, to caring for one's children in the future, charity, legally evading the taxman, and more, "Estate Planning Smarts" is a choice pick for those who plan for the worst wisely.
Excellent Resource (2010-02-18)
Estate Planning Smarts eases the reader into a subject that is often difficult by focusing on an underlying purpose of estate planning: taking care of yourself and those you love. In this context, the Ms.Jacobs discusses the documents and tools that make-up an estate plan, the estate tax, and different assets and family situations that affect planning. All the while, the book uses language that both a lay person and an estate planner can understand and appreciate.
Ms. Jacobs divides the book into chapters by relevance to the reader, making it easy to find a particular topic or read the entire book without feeling overwhelmed. Each chapter is further subdivided by descriptive headings so as to give the reader a roadmap for that particular topic. Within each chapter, colored blocks set-off useful "to-do" lists, real-life examples, charts, and tables. The back of the book contains a 20-page glossary of estate planning terms and a list of resources for further understanding and action. Updated chapters to the book will be provided online at [...], insuring that the reader stays up-to-date.
Deborah Jacobs uses her prior years experience of writing in this field to create a book that really is practical, user-friendly, and action-oriented. Because the book uses an easy-to-read format, explains complex topics simply, and prompts the reader to think about and organize for effective estate planning, Estate Planning Smarts is a great book for estate planners to make available to new clients in need of a basic information.

Awesome Guide to Estate Planning! (2009-12-13)
I began to read "Estate Planning Smarts" while visiting my elderly mom in Florida, the night before our first appointment with an elder care lawyer. Believe it or not, I couldn't put it down! Who would have thought that a book on estate planning could be such a page turner!
I stayed up reading most of the night, secure in Deborah Jacob's expert and compassionate guidance through the difficult terrain of estate planning and financial management. A lawyer myself -environmental but not trusts/estates-, I was impressed by how Ms. Jacobs managed to explain a complex area of law with comprehensiveness and clarity, and her focus on easy to use checklists.
When my mom woke me up in time for our 8 am departure, she was dismayed to hear I had stayed up reading a book until well after 3 am. When we had our meeting with the new lawyer, I used much of what I had learned the night before, particularly chapter 6 on trusts. Afterwards, I showed my mom - who was thrilled with both the new lawyer and her daughter's sage input during the meeting,- Deborah Jacob's book. She was similarly wowed, but still doesn't understand why I couldn't have started reading it earlier.
I cant begin to say enough about how useful this book is for everyone from the general public to legal and financial professionals. It made me better informed for our meeting with the lawyer and gave me incredibly useful checklists that I will be using with mom's financial adviser. Awesome is the word that best describes this action-oriented book. It's a ray of sunshine and clarity, and like my mom said to me, read it as early as you can.
Terrific Book (2009-12-12)
This is a terrific book--the perfect guide for anyone who cares about their loved ones, financial security, or personal legacy. And who doesn't? As Jacobs explains in this highly readable book, estate plans aren't just for the rich. Many of us have more assets than we realize: a home, a retirement plan, life insurance, and family keepsakes. With the recession, it's more important than ever to preserve those assets for ourselves and loved ones.
The tax rules affecting these simple assets are more complex--and unforgiving--than most people realize. Many workers, for example, name their "estate" as the beneficiary on retirement plans. That's a mistake even my highly educated father made. Jacobs explains that this designation raises income tax bills for your heirs--even if your estate is small enough to escape the estate tax. Savvy planners name their heirs directly as beneficiaries of the retirement plan, leaving more money for the heirs and less for Uncle Sam.
"Estate Planning Smarts" is full of tips like this. And Jacobs presents her advice clearly, compassionately, and pragmatically. She guides readers through the human side of estate planning, as well as through the financial aspects. Sidebars offer interesting examples, while a detailed glossary explains puzzling terms. Jacobs even includes advice on how to find a lawyer, and she directs readers to other books, websites, and software.
This book is a treasure! Buy it and pass your own treasure on to the people and causes you love.

Comprehensive book on Finance (2009-12-21)
Don't let the title fool you. This book covers all aspects of personal finance (investing, saving, insurance, etc). It is easy to understand very directive in its prescriptions.
I found it to very helpful.
A very strong pick for those who need help planning for their financial future (2009-12-16)
Wise money management is easier than one would think. "Personal Finance for Dummies" is the sixth edition of this volume of Dummies book, seeking to help readers better manage their money for prosperity now and for the future. Covering goal setting, saving money, protecting oneself against fraud and smartly dealing with one's taxes, and more, "Personal Finance for Dummies" is a very strong pick for those who need help planning for their financial future.
Great for the young and ignorant (i.e. me) (2009-12-10)
I have to agree with many of the reviewers who gave this book just a few stars: this book is very basic.
That's why it was so useful to me, a woman in her 20's who is still figuring out the basics of money management. Tyson does kind of skim over each topic, but if you are looking for a broad look at personal finances this is perfect: it serves as an introduction to paying off debt, investing, handling retirement funds. It helped my husband and me figure out which area we need work on (and which topic to buy a more specific book about). I gave it 4 stars because it seemed the author could have given a bit more advice about paying off "good" debt like student loans. Not recommended for the money savvy, but great for all of us financial dummies out there.
I Don't Feel So Dumb Anymore (2009-11-07)
Why would I pick up a copy of Personal Finance For Dummies? After all, the sound of the word "dummy" reminded me of a wooden-headed creature with a ventriloquist's voice and that could not be me. As I started reading the introduction, the very first line made me feel much better: "If your personal financial knowledge is limited, you're probably not at fault." In my case, that was an accurate statement until I read Personal Finance For Dummies.
First off, the book is written in language any layman can understand. It is not necessary to read every word of every chapter, yet I would advise at least skimming the headings on each page. As a whole, the book shows a reader the effect sound financial planning can have on a lifetime. It shows the importance of diagnosing monetary fitness and then exercising sound financial health practices at a very early age.
One of the most important pieces of advice author Tyson gives is this: Get out the scissors and cut up your credit cards (not debit cards). In an era where overspending with plastic has helped bring the collapse of world markets, it is critical to plan how you will save money for your future - but you must do it now! This is especially important if you tend to be obsessive about using plastic instead of real money.
Saving usually means cutting what you spend. The author suggests not buying costly brand names when others are of equal quality. When possible, buying in bulk at wholesale superstores is a real cost saver unless you're buying perishables. Then it's important to use all the items before they turn bad or before their expiration date. When eating outside the home, he suggests ordering vegetarian dishes, and avoiding beverages, especially alcohol.
"I'm not saying that you should live on bread and water. You can have desert ... have some wine, too, for special occasions ... not with every meal. Try eating appetizers and dessert at home..."
Tyson explains the difference between bad debt and good debt. You incur bad debt when you borrow money or use credit cards to buy items for which you don't have immediate cash. To pay for a much needed vacation, he'd suggest you first save enough money for the vacation, then actually take it. If you need a new automobile, avoid taking out a loan. Instead, consider buying a used car rather than a spanking new one which loses a high percentage of its value the instant you start the motor and drive it out of the dealership.
On the other hand, you acquire good debt when you spend money for education, or for a house, or for starting your own small business. In these instances, what you spend is not consumed without a return. Education can buy you a better job; a home will build up equity with time; a small business can grow you more take home profit than working for someone in another business at a fixed wage. Tyson explains that people often overlook their own talents and skills which they could effectively exploit in starting a small business.
When you must borrow, Personal Finance For Dummies suggests you investigate borrowing against the cash value of life insurance policies; cashing in stock shares or treasury bonds; borrowing against the equity in your home; borrowing against your employer's retirement account balance. He even suggests borrowing from friends or family. In all probability you'll get the fairest interest rate possible.
Personal Finance For Dummies stresses the importance of investing money wisely in mutual funds. The author favors a portfolio of both mutual funds and bond funds because of the low risk involved. Over a period of time, several or many years perhaps, this type portfolio can increase your wealth without as much risk as outright purchases of company stock. In a time like the present where so many companies, and yes, even financial investment houses have gone bankrupt, stock in many of these companies is now worthless.
It is critical, however, to hire a financial manager to help you make good choices with investments. This manager will charge a fee, of course, but should help you invest in companies where there is no charge (no-load) for the mutual fund shares you buy. It is critical that you to do your homework in finding this manager. Otherwise, you could be paying a clever salesman who will advise you to purchase funds from which he or she makes a profit not only for selling them to you, but also makes a profit each time you buy or sell within that fund.
When suggesting investing firms, author Tyson claims "Vanguard ... is a mutual fund powerhouse." Over the years, its funds have excellent performance records and the lowest operating expenses. Other companies he mentions are: Fidelity, Dodge & Cox, Harbor Bond, and T. Rowe Price Spectrum. Later in the book, after explaining a variety of state sponsored college saving plans, the author discusses strategies for paying educational expenses, concluding that no-load mutual funds with a proven track record are the best route.
Toward the end chapters of Personal Finance For Dummies, the author explains various types of insurance people should have to protect themselves. His discussion includes health coverage along with an explanation of Medicare and Medicaid benefits. When buying automobile coverage, Tyson recommends taking the highest deductible possible reasoning that over a period of many years, out of pocket expenses to pay for automobile damage repair is much lower than shelling out high insurance premiums.
The book deals with dwelling insurance, including personal property coverage for the things you own. The discussion of life and disability insurance offers suggestions on how to logically determine what you really need. Then too, the importance of an umbrella policy should not be overlooked. This mega-liability umbrella coverage is usually sold in increments of $1,000,000 and should cover twice the value of your assets. Tyson suggests contacting your auto or home owner's insurance to purchase such coverage.
To explain all the topics covered in Personal Finance For Dummies would be to rewrite the book itself. In my opinion Eric Tyson has done an excellent job explaining a large variety of financial topics at a level most any reader can understand. This includes me. The book is printed with clever icons in its margins to help you find or notice information that may be useful or that you want to remember. Those icons are posted throughout this review.
I would recommend Personal Finance For Dummies to people like you and me, who learned ways of improving and safeguarding my own current lifestyle. I've made a lot of financial mistakes, but now I have the information and mindset to examine, question, and change many of them.

A must read for everybody interested in increasing your networth (2009-08-14)
A fantastic piece of work by Eric Tyson. I bought this book when i landed my very first job. At that point my net worth was minus 10,000 $. This has been the best [...] bucks i have ever spent. Today, following the simple and uncomplicated strategies for saving and investing my net worth has risen 5 fold in 2 years and is still growing despite the bad economy. Thanks a lot Eric. At last there is one person out there who provides sound financial advice devoid of the crazy media hypes and emotional dramas about the stock markets portrayed on TV. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for sound financial advice!

Wonderful jumping off point (2010-01-02)
I use this book for my kids as a preschool guide and it's a fabulous place to start. This book is great for ages three to five and perhaps a bit beyond. If you have a vast library at home the first section will be a lot of review. The book is specific enough to spark young mind's interest in a subject but general enough to leave room for self/parent-guided research. The English and math portions are more of what I'd think of as early pre-school level but the history, geography and social sciences areas seem to be spot on for PK and K. I loan it out to friends all the time and highly recommend it for homeschoolers and group schoolers alike.
A Book with a Purpose (2009-10-04)
Dr. Hirsch has grabbed the essence of knowledge and put it in a "Walmart bag of practical use for us. I am a degreed person and find this book to be the most practical approach to preparing students for learning in a line by line, precept upon precept formula of education.
I'm helping to educate my grandchildren. It doesn't get any better than that.
Dr. Hirsch has presented the basics of education that would link student to student if we were to use this in the public education venue. Great book that will never lose its practical applications and core selections.
Thank you Dr. Hirsch!!!!
I've had to present some pitiful "educational" materials over the last 30 years. Yours is a window of fresh air in practicality.

Great stories for bedtime (2009-04-17)
I read to my child every night. I have done this since he was days old. We have a boatload of books. He is almost 4 and I noticed he pays more attention when I read books with stories. I am sick of "Are you my mother?" and anything to do with Horton.
I was attracted to this book because it was filled with interesting, well known stories. I thought the lack of color pictures would be a problem, but it turned out to be irrelevant. He loves listening to the stories. He even tries to repeat them back to me.
Unlike other's, I like that these are the classic versions of the stories. These original versions don't always have the moral point infused into modern versions. They also can talk about death. However, this gives me the opportunity to have intelligent conversations with my child regarding tough topics.
Let me give you an example with the 3 little pigs. In the classic version, the brick pig only uses bricks because that is what he finds, which is the same with stick and straw pig. The moral of him working harder to get a better house is not in this version. In this version, stick and straw pig get eaten by the wolf. The wolf gets boiled in a pot of water.
So after we read the story as-is, we had a discussion about it. My 3yo really enjoyed the interaction.
At this point, we are doing 1 story, 1 fable or poem, and 1 math, science or spelling thing out of the book each day. I have been very happy with the results.

Early Praise for Organizing the Disorganized Child
"A superb book! Blessedly brief, pointedly practical, and clear as glass, this book will help any child, parent, or teacher who reads it. Step by step, the authors, who truly know their subject, lead the reader through a method that canâ²t help but succeed. This book meets an urgent need. I will be referring my patients to it."
- Edward Hallowell, M.D., co-author of Driven to Distraction and Superparenting for ADD
"Organizing the Disorganized Child is a long overdue manual that strives to make life easier on families with children with ADHD. Unlike other books that offer a menu of one-size-fits-all strategies, this book digs deeper and helps parents to understand the root causes of their particular childâ²s disorganization...This book is a MUST HAVE for all parents of children with or without ADHD!"
- Nancy A. Ratey, author of The Disorganized Mind
"Organizing the Disorganized Child is a breath of fresh air. Straightforward, practical, and most important, providing strategies and ideas that any parent - even the disorganized - can easily implement. Rather than wait till some children struggle I suggest that Organizing the Disorganized Child be essential reading for parents of all entering first graders."

"The fault does not lie in the child's wilfullness. It's the brain." (2009-12-20)
What comes to mind when you hear "children" and "organization"? A typo? An oxymoron? It doesn't have to be a clash of realities; the two can coincide in happy harmony, leaving you, as the frazzled parent, with a renewed confidence in yourself and your child. There is hope. In //Organizing the Disorganized Child//, Martin L. Kutscher and Marcella Moran are guiding children, along with their parents, to an organized backpack, a binder that resembles more of a home-base than an origami project gone awry, and a study space that actually promotes success and achieves results. With these simple techniques your student, and you, will feel the anxiety lift like an early morning fog, leaving a sense of accomplishment and responsibility. There are short quizzes and tool recommendations to help define and instill the style of organization your child will most benefit from. Crammed with suggestions and tips, relief is nearby, even if a bit redundant. It is written like a study guide too, with a summary at the close of each chapter, so feel free to skip ahead and go back as you need. Just be sure to keep highlighters on hand. Imagine...less time fighting the battle of homework and studying, and more time for...well, everything else.
Stop the Insanity...... (2009-11-15)
To watch our bright child struggle in school simply because he couldn't remember assignments, books to bring home and a myriad of other organizational problems we were desperate to try anything to end the yelling and screaming about homework and projects. This book laid out some great simple suggestions and literally "cured" my son's disorganization. We were able to create fun reasons and games to make his schoolwork more manageable. Im hoping that he will be able to take these organization technics into high school and be as successful as he has become in grammar school. This book is a must read for any parent who is at their wits end with school work. If you have a child that struggles in school simply because they cant organize their work, don't miss this book... Respectfully, Two Very Relieved Parents.........
The Must-Have Book for Parents (2009-11-01)
Organizing the Disorganized Child is one of the best books I read in 2009. It is written clearly and simply with excellent organizing ideas. This book is so detailed in its descriptions (and photos) that I recommend it to teachers whenever I speak with them about creating a consistent classroom culture. I highly recommend this book to every family of kids and tweens, not just families who feel disorganized. It's an important contribution to the parenting literature and will be enjoyed by teachers, parents and even intelligent kids who wish to better understand their organizing style.
Great book! (2009-10-14)
I wish I've read this book when my son just started middle school, even though suggestions and techniques are great for all ages. It has very interesting points! Organizing the Disorganized Child: Simple Strategies to Succeed in School
Finally, not a one size fits all approach (2009-10-07)
I initially bought two books when I read the review; one for myself and one for my sister. Now I am back to purchase 5 more because I just have to share this book with my friends who are all suffering the homework blues!
I have always considered myself a very organized person (too much so, probably!) and I was able to pass this skill on to my oldest child. Then came my second! It seemed like nothing worked! All I kept hearing was, "I can't, I can't! I don't know how!" and I thought this was just her being obstinate or lazy or both. I would get angrier and angrier. I was at my wits end and resigned to the fact that this would always be a struggle for us.
Then I read in this book, "She was telling me exactly what the problem was-she really didn't have a clue how to start the task. She wasn't being lazy or trying to get away from her responsibilities. She simply didn't know how to organize herself. That insight helped me to turn aside my anger. Now I just needed to figure out how to help her." It was my situation excactly!
Just because I was so organized, it didn't mean my method of organization would work for my daughter. Thanks to this book, there are simple, concrete ways to determine exactly what works best for my daughter and the way she thinks/sees things. What works for me doesn't work for her and once we found what works for her, we were free! Free from frustration, free from screaming and free to focus on other things!
I recommend this to anyone who thought there was no hope for thier child to ever be organized. It is a book that is very specific and straightforward. I also think it's an excellent book for disorganized adults too!

Terrible service and seller (2010-02-17)
I would give this seller negative reviews if I could. It took ten days before my item even shipped. My compliant went no where: I was told no cancellations and that I would have to pay for return if refunded. Thanks for nothing. Buyer beware.
The every-bride's guide (2010-02-03)
I bought this on a whim, but it quickly became my wedding "bible." Just wish I had bought it when we first got engaged. It was as if Mindy was right there walking me through each step along the way. So helpful and fun. I loved the bits of wedding lore and trivia.
Bride's Bible (2009-11-07)
This book was given to me from my then future sister in law. It was the most Helpful gift I have ever received. I had only been to maybe 3 weddings before mine and had no idea what to do or where to start. This book has an answer to every question that came up.
We had 60 guests at our wedding (including the bridal party). It's true that the book is aimed for larger weddings but it's not that difficult to just take the information you need and pair it down for a smaller wedding.
I'm actually online right now to buy this book for my friends who just got engaged an hour ago!! Congrats Kenny and Meghan!!
Everything You Could Ever Need (2009-10-25)
When I got engaged, I almost had a panic attack about having to plan a wedding. I have done event planning before at work but had no idea what all needed to be done for a wedding... until I found this book. It is a great reference book for all things related to a wedding. From what questions to ask vendors, what the various types of veils are (birdcage? cathedral?), to how to write a thank you note. It also has instructions for things like how to preserve your gown, save the top layer of your cake, etc.
I highly recommend this book to anyone planning a wedding!
best wedding book (2009-10-17)
This book is great and up to date guide for a wedding. It answers questions in a 2009 era. I can't think of a question we had that it didn't address. As the parents of the groom, we wanted to know as much as possible to help and participate in the planning of our sons' wedding. Mindy's book had all of the answers in a clear and practical way. Easy to navigate through, too.

College Class (2010-02-15)
I had to get the book for College. I recieved the book FAST and same as new except didn't have to spend as much as I would if I went to Borders. Thanx A lot!
Teach Like Your Hair Is ON Fire (2009-11-09)
The book was in good condition and arrived in about five days. I was happy to get it before I went on vacation.
Great book for every aspiring teacher, but... (2009-09-27)
I found a big mistake on page 70. Mr Rafe says "0 divided by any number is 0" which is completely false since if I am allowed to divide 0 by any number, let me divide 0 by 0. Then I have a little problem, don't I. Otherwise, great book.
Teaching from the Heart (2009-09-26)
When you need inspiration on ways to make your teaching come alive Teach Like Your Hair's on Fire is just the book for you. I have used ideas suggested by Rafe Esquith with first graders through college age kids.
Lively and inspiring it's a book that you just can't put down.
An inspiring read... (2009-09-12)
Rafe Esquith is truly an inspiring teacher. He uses very creative methods for engaging his students, and I hope that he provides a blueprint for other teachers. My only quibble is that his feeling towards administrators are laid bare. Did he not have any that helped him achieve the goals that he set for his classroom? He could have been a little more generous with his fellow teachers: there were only a couple of mentions regarding the good ideas of others.

the encyclopedia of infant and toddler activites (2009-02-15)
Its a great book with lots of ideas in it that i use all the time with my lil one. Great for anyone in a day care setting also easy things to do but also inventive
Everything you need (2008-08-30)
This book is not that thick but it is amazingly packed with so many good ideas. Also I love how the activities are divided by younger, young and older toddler activities. It has discovery, math, sensory, music etc... activities.
Good for teachers only (2008-02-25)
I think this would be a good book for teachers or day care workers. A lot of the activities in this book I've been doing with my daughter already, or would only work with materials that a day care or pre-school would have on hand.
A great jummping off point for Infant & Toddler teachers! (2007-11-03)
When I first got this book I was bit disappointed since the activities look so simple that ANYONE could've thought them up.
the thing is that as time passes you find yourself doing the same activities and realize you need to freshen up your lesson plans.
This book is great because it does just that. Gives you great ideas and reminds you the infants & toddlers require different things when learning.
I love the way this book is set up and separated by area of interest (fine motor, gross motor, discovery, etc.) and then by age (infant, young toddlers, older toddlers)
A MUST HAVE!
Good resource, but not geared for parents (2007-08-28)
This does say "For teachers, by teachers" on the cover so it isn't surprising most of the ideas are more suited for classroom settings. If you like to have a lot of resources as a parent, it's nice. For a teacher, it would be more useful.

A Big Help. (2010-02-10)
My daughter attends second grade at a charter school. She was having a bit of a hard time and we weren't sure how to help her. Her teacher recommended this book and it changed our world. We are able to work on subjects before she gets to them so she is familiar with them. It has helped out a lot. Definitely a good buy.
Great for overseas parents (2010-01-01)
I have purchased the Kindergarten and First Grade books. They've been especially helpful to me as an American parent in Switzerland. I read the books to my child to familiarize her with American culture and history because I don't want her to be culturally illiterate whenever we return to the United States.
She very much enjoys hearing the poems, stories and history. I don't do much with the math or science as they are the same in any language. I would, however, like to have quizzes or activities in the book to reinforce what she's learned. I'm looking forward to the future grades.
A Successful Student (2009-10-12)
"What A Second Grader Should Know?"
The fundmentals for this book is speechless!!; I strongly urge any parent wanting the best for their Kindergarten through Second grader. Our son, second grader, was struggling with Reading; Yet, 4.0 Second grader. The poems, stories, and articles of literature gave him something to read everynight, as well as build up his reading level from first grade to second grade, and continue to progress and advance with math, science, and history learning materials. I stumbled across the book in the library and continue to check it out for three weeks until I decided to order from Amazon.
Love it! (2009-08-09)
We homeschool and this book was a great reference for me. It covers all the basics and isn't terribly lengthy or expensive. I like cheap, simple and to the point.
Wonderful Resource!!! (2009-05-21)
My preschooler was having behavioral problems at school. One teacher said she needed to be in advanced studies and another said she needed to be held back. I had no idea where she was academically for her age. I had always relied on the school system to tell me how my child was doing and now I had two completely opposing views and a child who was unhappy in school.
I bought this series for grades preschool through second grade to determine where she fell. I used the books to supplement her education where I thought she was lacking. After four months not only was she accepted into a private school that teaches two grades advanced of standard, but they bumped her up a grade as well. She has completely stopped her behavioral problems and is happy in school again.
I would have never known what was the right the path for her, if this series had not helped me determine what a child of her age supposed to be learning.
I highly recommend this series for any parent who just wants to be informed about the educational standards and where their child falls. In addition, its a great resource for supplementing your child's education.
No one knows your child as well as you do, but you have to have the knowledge to make decisions. Without knowing what your child should know, how can you really be sure how well their doing?
In addition, I completely disagree with some reviewers who have claimed the books are racist. I was impressed with the multicultural approach of the books. The history section made a point to include important minorities, including women, asians, blacks, hispanics. The literature section included stories from asia and stories about slavery and women's rights. We did not studies those in school when I was growing up. I thought the book was well balanced.
If home schooling, I thought it made an excellent guide, but it doesn't claim to be a tool as your only resource. It would certainly need to be supplemented, but it provides a great guide for the topics that you would need to cover.

Detailed, Step-by-Step Process in Organizing Your Records (2009-09-22)
This gave me detailed, step-by-step process for gathering records and key documents and organizing them for future use. The greatest resource is the forms CD included with the book and I will be able update and reprint the forms when necessary. I have a peace of mind that my successors will have no trouble making or tracking down stuff because I put all of these forms and key documents in one place and all of the meaningless clutter is gone. My next purchase will be Quicken WillMaker Plus 2009 Edition.
Excellent Book for All (2009-08-05)
I bought this book because I have a 1 1/2 year old son and I thought it would be a good idea to have everything organized in case something happens to me. After going through this book, I realized that whomever has the task of executing my wishes will be able to do so with ease. I am already an organized person but this book made me organize my paperwork even better.
This is a must have book!
A family survival guide (2009-05-21)
"Get It Together" is a great resource, filled with worksheets, checklists, and step-by-step instructions. It also includes a Windows-based CD-ROM for printing out selected documents and resources. It probably contains more information than most people will need, but it is a good preparation guide for family and loved ones. It's like a family survival guide for when you're no longer here.
It discusses burial and cremation options, organs and body donation, funeral and memorial services, healthcare directives, small business ownership, and durable power of attorney finances, and the like. Nearly all the material your family will need can be stored in a paper folder and on your computer. Upon your passing away, your family and loved ones will have the necessary documents and information they need about you, your business, employment, and personal life. It's also a useful guide for personal and family planning in general.
