A "must have" in daily meditations (2010-04-26)
This book is a "must have" for people learning to grow and move beyond codependency and the effects of a dysfunctional family. The down to earth daily meditations are insightful and clear. This book is a staple for any self-help library.
Letting go (2010-03-28)
The Language of Letting Go is a great book for early recovery. I recommend this book for all those working thru issues with alcohol, divorce, and boundaries. It speaks to the heart so well that it is difficult to not read ahead and keep life simple by living one day at a time.
exquisite and important book (2010-03-27)
I continue to get so much from this book. It is a brilliant "day at a time" support for the relief of co-dependency and co-dependent thoughts and behaviours.
co dependent no more in pittsburgh (2010-02-27)
I recieved the book on Feb 13 th after having to wait out 30.5 inches of snow that made mail delivery and pick up impossible. When I did finally get to the postoffice to pick it up, I literally read from january 1 to february 13th and I read it every day, I even have certain phrases and concepts flagged to return to those phrases and concepts when I am unsure about how it is playing out in my life that day. I feel the books are like a dictionary to me, I will probably use them daily for the balance of my life. Thanks Melody Beattie for exposing yourself so that others like myself may find freedom as well.
A daily calendar "must read" for ANYONE. (2010-02-24)
This book is not just for 12 step recovering. Everyone can benefit their lives by reading a little everyday. Extremely helpful for improving all of our relationships, especially to ourselves. Because it goes by date, you can re-read it yearly. A wonderful book by Melody.

Great gift (2010-01-10)
I got this for a gift and the person whom I gave it to was very happy. They said it helped them a lot. So I recommend it to others, it's worth the money
Inspirational and life changing (2009-12-23)
This book of daily reflections can help you see things in a whole different light. It is a great resource for those in recovery or anyone just needing a daily lift.
If you want the real deal, get the 24 Hour A Day book (2009-08-27)
I was involved in the process about whether this book should be published at all. Clearly the membership at the time felt no such need for a daily reader as Hazelden's 24 Hour A Day book had become the standard. But in the end, Daily Reflections was published...I believe for the income.
This book, quite frankly, is a disappointment. Very shallow...kind of Recovery Empty Calories.
Daily Reflections (2008-11-13)
I believe this book is a "must have" for any recovering alcoholic or addict. It is really good to sit down each morning and read the thought of that day just to get your mind going on the right track. Very humbling, very thought provoking.
365 Views of All Stripes are next to useless (2008-08-07)
When someone in the A.A. chain decided that the Bible and all the other books that were used by early AAS, and those poured out by Hazelden years later were not good enough, they took a survey in at least two meetings I reguarly attended. The question was: Do we need a "meditation" book written by AAs themselves? I can't recall the votes cast, but I can recall that the result was negative. Later, out came this can of varied thoughts gathered, said A.A., from all over the country and membership. Nothing I have read squares with a single viewpoint, a single piece of early A.A. history, and certainly not with the "meditation" approach used by pioneers. That was: (1) Pray. (2) Read the Bible. (3) Ask God what He wants you to do and how you can serve. (4) Go about your Father's business. You will find this in the devotionals the pioneers used--The Runner's Bible, Upper Room, Abundant Living, Daily Strength for Daily Needs, My Utmost for His Highest. And this particular piece of late late "official" literature goes even farther toward convincing a newcomer that he doesn't need to believe in anything at all--and certainly not in the truth found and studied in the Good Book.Good Morning!: Quiet Time, Morning Watch, Meditation, and Early A.A.

Price:
$14.99Oswald Chambers, a Scotsman who converted to Christianity in his teens under the ministry of Charles Spurgeon, has been affecting Christians with his devotional words since My Utmost for His Highest was first published in 1935. This acknowledged classic contains 365 daily readings that take heady doctrine and make it practical, realistic, and intensely personal. With humor and humility, Chambers speaks plainly to the common man struggling with devotion to Christ in daily living. Worldly cares and self-serving desires begin to lose their appeal as Chambers aides the reader in transforming his mind by viewing life through the instruction of God's Word. Richard Halverson, former chaplain of the United States Senate, attests to this: "no book except the Bible has influenced my walk with Christ at such deep maturing levels." This is Chambers's chief desire, directing the reader to "shut out every other consideration and keep yourself before God for this one thing only--My Utmost for His Highest... determined to be absolutely and entirely for Him and for Him alone." --Jill Heatherly

Very Nice...Great Price... (2010-05-17)
Great little book...for being written originally in 1935...the thoughts and prayers are for the world we live in today.
My Utmost from His Highest (2010-05-10)
Delayed shipping by a few days, but came in the shape that was described on posting.
New Version of Old Classic (2010-05-01)
Valuable up-to-date morning and evening devotions for Christians who want depth in their relationship with God. Changed from original test to modern day language makes it more easily readable.
Life changing! (2010-03-27)
This is the most outstanding daily devotional I have ever found. Summarized from the weekly messages he preached, these devotionals show the great depth of love and understanding Oswald Chambers had for the Word of God. It is amazingly just as alive today as when it was written a hundred years ago. I was unable to get enough of it, and I went through the book twice. A must read for every Christian dedicated to the study of the Word. You can begin each day with an uplifting thought about how we can do our best, our utmost, for God.
Great devotional book! (2010-03-18)
I received this as Christmas present. I learned so much from this book and it makes my "walk" better with Christ. I bought 4 more to give to my Christian brothers. I'd say the teaching is deep and sometimes I had to read a few times to grasp the true meaning of the words. I'd not get this for new believers. I hope you will be blessed too!

A lot of info for a tiny island! (2010-03-15)
Frommer's is my usual go-to for travel books and this is no exception. The book starts out with approx 10 pages of glossy photos that make you ready to jump on the next plane headed East. I have never been to Bermuda but have traveled extensively and am looking forward to a trip in May. The book is broken out into sections:
1. Maps - limited high-level without much detail. I think we'd probably want a better map, but since there's no such thing as rental cars in Bermuda maybe we won't need one...
2. The Best of Bermuda (best beaches, dive sites, golf courses, places to stay for honeymooners... for families, best restaurants, etc.)
3. Bermuda in Depth - covering history, art and architecture, and 'locals' type information
4. Planning your trip - when to go, entry requirements, getting around (no rental cars!), money, costs, calendar of events
5.6.7... Suggested Itineraries, where to stay, where to dine, seeing the sights, shopping, club scene, and an index.
After cross-referencing with a few other books, this one will be our companion for the trip. It covers everything and is fairly compact and light. The info appears up-to-date and describes in detail our hotel, close beaches, how to get around, what to do, eating etc. I imagine it will provide equally pertinent information to most any traveler headed that way so I consider this a valuable resource in planning a great vacation!
FROMMER'S BERMUDA (2009-12-06)
GOOD BASIC INFO. It helped us decide that Bermuda was not for us. It was all we wanted from this book.

$0.99This is a 2010 Daily Planner for the Amazon Kindle. Like the paper version, each of the 365 days of 2010 is represented by a page. When the font size is large enough, a day's entry covers two pages instead of one. Each day has hourly slots for appointments or reminders from 8 am until 8 pm. This planner takes advantage of the annotation capability of the Kindle so that the user can add, view, modify and delete appointments. Major U.S. holidays are included.

Not yet user friendly (2010-04-10)
I do not like the fact that after entering an appointment that it does not show the text next to the appointed time. It is necessary to highlight that entry to see the text. Blackberry is much more efficient, so for now, I'll stick with it.
What a waste. (2010-03-15)
Too hard to change days. Appointments are just listed as numbers next to day. Nothing good to say.
If you want a basic calendar, you got it. (2010-03-10)
I was looking for a replacement for my day planner since my Kindle goes where I go pretty much. This planner looks nice on the screen, but getting to the right date and entering your appointments takes time, meaning it's slow. I read on someone's review that the Kindle was for output, not input, I guess this is true. But, all in all, for no more than I really used a day planner, it gets the job done. No frills, but what do you expect for a dollar?
Better off with a hardcopy calendar (2010-02-08)
...or your PDA, or your mobile phone, or ANYthing besides this. The other reviewer was right: a Kindle is not designed so much for input as output. With absolutely no programming capability and no ability to see an entire day of appointments at a glance, you're better off going to your local bank for a free pocket calendar and pencil. It's a little misleading if you're a newbie Kindle user and unaware of these limitations. Somehow I thought, even after reading the Users Guide, that some sort of hard coding had been built into it to make it more versatile. I guess I learned my dollar lesson: always try a sample before you buy!
Not what I was expecting (2010-02-05)
This is an OK planner but I would like to see one that give you a day/week/month at a glance. Guess I'm just spoiled to a product similar to Outlook calander.

Daily Meditation (2010-04-15)
I am so impressed with this book. It is used along with my bible and the 12 step program. It definitely has the woman in mind!
This book made me feel less alone during a difficult time (2010-01-20)
I came across this book by accident. I found it on a friends bookshelf, she had been given the book as a gift and told me I could have it. The author wrote that this book is meant "to bridge the gap between you and your spirit" and that is exactly what it does. I set aside time every morning to read the daily quote and focus on the message. This morning I was reading it at a coffee shop and someone commented to me "that must be a good book beacuse you are really focused on it." I just laughed to myself and said that it was a good book.
My morning meditation always puts me in a good, positive, can do mood. Then if I feel some negative energy comming on, I reverberate back to the book to help put myself at ease. It has really helped me make it through many tough days. I have been struggling with depression, weight issues and like the author struggled to believe in my "worth, capabilities and strength." I have made alot of progress but I am not there yet. I have been doing alot of soul searching and "internal work" to the point that I am unrecognizable to my former self. The book has really helped to guide that process. Letting me know that this type of struggle is necessary in order to reach your full potential as a woman. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
Outstanding (2009-12-21)
A++ I highly recommend doing business with this outstanding vendor. I couldn't be more pleased with the incredible speed of delivery-a real stand-out. I was shocked to have gotten my item this quickly, just as pictured, even better than imagined. Thank you for your promptness and professionalism.
Inspirational (2009-10-08)
I got this copy as a gift for a friend because, as glancing through my copy, she felt she would enjoy it. Now we both love our copies. Personally I find the daily readings a great way to start and end my day. They are very comforting and inspriational.
Inspirational (2009-08-16)
Love this book....use it for a weekly women in recovery meeting...enables the women to share from the soul. I've had my copy since 1991.

flawed (2010-04-21)
Lovely. Smaller than most but perfectly good size.
The one flaw is that the bookmaker is on the back so that I can clasp together future pages that I want to see rather than the past days that I no longer need to see. Makes the bookmarker useless.
Love this engagement calendar. (2010-04-13)
I bought this calendar for my grandmother who has trouble remembering things.
She also loves butterflies.
This was a great gift to give to her.
Excellent quality.
I highly recommend this calendar.
It's ok, small but it'll do (2010-02-10)
I like the design. I was expecting something a little bigger. It's small and fits in your purse but I need more space.
I don't like 10 month planners and I didn't know that it was 10 month. It's cute for those who don't have many appointments or events. I'm making the best of it and it will do for the remaining of the year.
Just what I needed (2010-01-30)
This is a nice calendar. Small enough to keep in my purse but enough room to write all of our events and such. Pretty outside and useful inside.
BEAUTIFUL! (2010-01-19)
It was a perfect size, but plenty of room to write in.
The quality is top of line!

Exceptional Quality and A sharp look (2010-04-15)
Most important feature is the page-day setting. It is very elegant and has a pocket at the back cover which was a nice addition. Very classy and has a phone book that can be detached.
Pleasantly surprised. (2010-01-25)
This ended up being of higher quality than I expected. Well worth the purchase.
Perfect size, great paper - a quality product (2010-01-12)
Moleskine products (I have many of their note books and journals) are high quality. For 2010, I needed a new daily planner and this size seemed perfect for me. The thing I love most is the way their paper takes ink (sounds funny unless you try writing on them - then you will get it). I use gel or roller ball pens a lot and on Moleskine paper, the writing just flows. It also doesn't bleed through to the other side - especially if I use a fountain pen (not so much anymore but it's nice to know I could if I wanted.)
There is a small folder in the back for slips of paper and business cards. It's a thoughtful touch and I already have a couple of business cards (my next dentist appointment, for example) in there.
The elastic band and silky ribbon bookmark complete the package.
If you want to support a quality manufacturer of a high quality product, you should try something from Moleskine. I recommend one of their journals and that you keep it with your passport or in your luggage. That way you can keep a travel history - I have done so for years and it's a lot of fun reliving past good times.
The best (2010-01-10)
I have found this to be the best diary I have used. The paper quality and thickness is just superb.
Does what you want it to (2009-10-09)
Good little notebook to throw into a bag, or jam into a jeans pocket. Will be using it daily when the New Year comes.
Great paper thickness & quality. A pleasure to write in.

book was backwards! (2010-02-01)
I bought two of these as gifts. They were a much better deal online than in the bookstores and that is probably because they both had the book binding on backwards. So when you opened the book to read it, you had to flip it over and read it that way - as if starting from the back of the book. It was just not something I wanted to give to someone as a gift. I wouldn't mind so much if it was for myself. I just wish that somewhere in the item description it would have said these were rejects and discounted as such. It added extra hassel to the holidays with having to ship it back for a refund. When I called the Amazon cust serv rep she said that she wouldn't want to return them for other one's b/c the whole batch may be that way. Amazon.com was listed as the seller.
Disorganized (2010-01-24)
Thia book is useless. Icannot imagine it even finding a publisher It doens't confine itself to one area of knowledge but includes a dab of information on random and scattered subjects. I threw it away in disgust.
Pretty Good! (2009-12-28)
I've really enjoyed reading my one-a-day history lessons this year! I'm almost through the entire book and I can't wait to start another intellectual devotional in 2010. Just one thing I've noticed as I've read the entries--some of them seem a bit uneven. I know it's tough to condense information about a major event, person, or place in history to a single page, but some of the entries don't even take up the entire page. Sometimes I wished they used the entire space--just a few more sentences of information. But I think that's a sign that I really liked the writing and information; I wanted more!
Great gift idea for the intellectual in your life!!! (2009-12-05)
I have been reading the first in the series which focuses on 7 distinct subject issues each week. This helps not get you stuck in subject matter for too long. The addtional facts are also handy, as they provide further insight into the subjust from another angle. I bought this book for a family member because I know they are an intellectual like myself!!!!
A Bedtime Reader of American History (2009-05-02)
So I have no time to read and when I saw this book, I was really excited because it is set up to give you maximum amounts of information in minimal amounts of time.... one page per day and there are several topics that are assorted week to week. I actually make time to read the single page and really enjoy what I read. There is a basic idea of each concept and then it is broken down into details, followed by four or five trivia points at the bottom. The book provides a whole year of information and for the price is a great buy. It's like taking a college course in the subject!

$20.00Is the year ahead looking much the same as the last? Another 365-day grind of meetings, dinner dates, and deadlines? If so, try this book.
Part instruction manual, part therapy, part religious cult, part sheer anarchy, This Book Will Change Your Life will help you poke a stick in the spokes of your routine.
It contains 365 daily orders, each one of which could turn your humdrum existence into a daily free-fall. On day 295, propose to a complete stranger. On day 181, get your street renamed after you. On day 16, discreetly give the finger to everyone you meet. Other days encourage self-crucifixion, currency manipulation, and writing to dictators.
Unusual and hilarious. The perfect gift for the guy or girl who has everything!
