I LOVE this book!! (2010-05-10)

I love this book! My husband and I have been trying to conceive for over a year. I have PCOS and I've been using acupuncture and Chinese medicine for the last 4 months. I was curious what other information was out there. I feel like I have read every blog and website available. I really like Randine Lewis' The Infertility Cure, but like this book even more. It's so easy to read and understand. I laughed when I started to read the Chapter entitled "How to Get Pregnant: The Basics". I thought there was no way they could teach me something I didn't already know....I was wrong! I've only had this book for 6 days and I've already carved out a lot of time to read it...something I haven't done with other infertility books. I don't know if there methods work, but for the price is right!!!

New Hope (2010-04-19)

I purchased this book in order to have a new perspective on healing the endometriosis and getting pregnant. I am very satisfied with all the info I read. And it really gives a lot of instructions and advice to follow in order to lead a healthier lifestyle for getting pregnant. I recognized some patterns in my life that I now know the reason like why I prefer warm food, why I am always cold etc... Even though I have to change my life completely , I am looking forward (not to all of it...)to a better chance of conceiving and delivering a healthy child.
It is not going to be an easy journey for me but it gives me new hope.

Very encouraging! (2010-04-15)

This is a wonderful book that has given new hope to my heart as I journey the road of infertility. The authors combined knowledge of western and eastern medicine was profound. They provided a lot more helpful information and practical advice than any other fertility book I"ve read, and I'm now a firm believer that infertility results from hormonal inbalances and other dysfunctions that can't always be fixed through western ART's (after experiencing many rounds of this myself). I want my body to be healed from the inside out.
I'm now receiving acupuncture treatments and taking chinese herbs. I've changed my diet and overall, I just feel better. Not sure where this road will take me, but the change is my body is wonderful.
Also - the authors are very gracious in answering your questions when you contact them through their website!

great book! (2010-04-14)

i love this book! It gives you a holistic approach and well as an allopathic approach!

A MUST-READ if you are seeking to get pregnant (2010-03-02)

Jill Blakeway and Sami David strike the perfect balance in Making Babies. As one trying to get pregnant, I am eager to understand ALL of my options -- and to understand the issues that might explain our challenges in getting pregnant. I liked having access to strong, medically-based explanations alongside lists of concrete steps we can consider in our particular case. Making Babies has allowed us to choose a path that suits our particular needs -- combining conventional medicine, diet, exercises, Chinese herbs, acupuncture, and massage. (What's great, too, is that I do not even need to pay expensive fees for a lot of this!)

Perhaps most importantly, Making Babies helped us understand how the various pieces of the puzzle fit together -- something medical providers have been unable to do for me despite my tendency to pester them with questions. The book has given me renewed faith in my body and my ability to tap into its potential -- possibly without a lot of medical intervention. JUST what we needed at a challenging and confusing time!

Very Pleased (2010-03-22)

I am not pregnant, but my husband and I are considering having a child sometime soon. Also my sister-in-law is about 23 weeks along in her pregnancy. I found this book to be very helpful for me and my sister-in-law. On top of seeing what other people who are going through some of the same things as you have to say, this book also had a birthing plan worksheet, information on how to contact different Dr's and Midwives, websites for any numbers of pregnancy and parenting concerns and many more very helpful facts. I would absolutely recommend this book.

So Much Information (2010-02-15)

There's so much information you get overloaded. This book has everything. But its a bit overwhelming for me. I ended up using it more as a reference guide. My main pregnancy book I used was 'Your Pregnancy Week by Week'. I'm not a big reader so this suited me well, I could just read each week as my pregnancy progressed. It had all the same information as the other pregnancy books, but in a more organized fashion.

good stuff (2009-10-30)

product was good shape, definetely used but in good shape. came in the mail much sooner than i anticipated which was great. i reccommend this seller and would definetely go through them again.

good book (2009-09-12)

I couldn't put it down. I was reading this from the point of view of wanting to become pregnant. I think this book was very helpful and would recommend it. The only concern I had was the statistics were from 1999.

The one & only book you'll need (2009-09-08)

This is the one & only book that you will need before & during your pregnancy. It is crisp, concise and packed with easy to understand graphs, charts & references about every pregnancy topic. Three things that I referenced time & time again... 1.) The Due Date Calculator, 2.) The Pregnancy Side Effect Chart, organized month-by-month & the accompanying side effect explaination, 3.) A concise month-by-month summary of baby development.

This book gives you all the knowledge you need to know without a ton of fluff. It is a quick read, and the way the info is presented, it sticks with you. I found that most pregnancy books on the market are flowerly, sentimental stories and have very little practical knowledge. Althought this book has personal quotes and short stories, it delivers the good to with the knowledge you need to know to get pregnant, what to expect during your pregnancy and practical knowledge for delivery.

Highly recommended!

Very inspirational and insightful! (2010-05-17)

I HIGHLY recommend this book. I read "Inconceivable", also by Julia Indichova, and this is a great companion piece.

A Life-affirming treasure (2009-09-08)

This book is a beautiful and wonderful life-affirming resource to any woman wanting to conceive and having difficulty. I am not infertile, but am an older wanna be mom. Just like many women who are either older or infertile, I've had to deal with the very harmful way our culture can treat moms and moms-to-be. The popular culture tends to value youth far more than wisdom and truth. What's more is that there is so much judgement out there regarding women and their reproductive choices - whether it's pro-choice or so-called "pro-life." But Julia does not get into the politics of this - that's just my observation.

What this book does is show you how to get in touch with that beautiful, god-given (my words)desire to create life. It is not just a "feel good" book - there are concrete tips as well as many case stories of women who have come to her workshops and what they have discovered on their way to becoming parents. She also shares her own experiences as well. If you are serious about your journey, you will also confront whatever pain you've experienced that could be getting in the way. You will have more insight into what it is you want and why you want it. What I love about it is how beautifully she validates the absolutely profound desire to create life and how unique and magnificent this is. Our culture wants to tell women how to live their lives and use their bodies and too often we end up looking to others to give us the answer. Julia teaches you how to stop looking outside yourself to create what you want. Look within and to your God (or whatever your higher power is) to guide you in creating the life you want.

Also - there are recipes and nutritional guidance that I would not purport to be "expert" but are very common-sense good suggestions. I have changed the way I eat and relate to food and my body as a result and can't say enough about how healthy that is.

There is a reason why you want to create life and have a baby - don't minimize that and don't give your power away to doctors/husbands/medical books, or whatever. Listen to the voice of that baby that wants to come out and ignore all the others!

A Ray of Hope (2009-07-19)

I purchased the book a few weeks ago and could not put it down until I read the entire thing. The positive messages throughout the book are inspiring. Julia gives you hope when it seems like no one else is able to. To those of us who have gone through or are currently going through a difficult time trying to conceive a child, this book is a blessing.

My baby is due tomorrow! All of my gratitude to you, Julia! (2009-05-04)

Julia,
Add me to the list of women that conceived after listening to your wonderful CD, and reading your inspiring book. After a miscarriage two years ago and 10 years of trying, my healthy baby boy is due tomorrow!!! There is no question that your words helped me open my heart and mind to receive this baby. Thank you so much!

With love and gratitude,
-Taryn

Best Pregnancy Book For Any Non-Traditional Woman (2010-04-24)

This is the most extensive pregnancy book for women who have to WORK at getting pregnant rather than starting at the "oops you're pregnant" point. If you're straight but single, lesbian, or partnered to a transman, this book is for you! Ms. Pepper is wonderful at being all-inclusive to all of her readers, including the family and partners of the pregnant woman. The book is positive and upbeat while still being serious and realistic. There is absolutely nothing I would change, add, or take away from this book and is worth keeping at your bedside if you're pregnant or beginning the process.

Nice place to start... (2009-01-31)

Some really good information. She doesn't go into extreme depths in most topics, but does suggest other places to get that information.

She has very strong and obvious opinions about things such as natural child birth, breast feeding, and circumcision. If your personal values vary from hers those parts of the book can be a little frustrating to read.

Other than that it was a quick, entertaining, informative read. Her laid back tone and quotes from people who have been their keep this book feeling very personal.

So good, straight girls can use it! (2009-01-25)

I lent this to a friend who was trying to conceive and didn't know what to expect from insemination. I found it useful & so did she! This book covers many issues of conception, pregnancy, and birth. Not a substitute for a more complete pregnancy manual, though. Some of the suggestions are outlandish (eat the placenta?!?!). Some great resources in this book.

The New Essential Guide to Lesbian Conception Book (2009-09-04)

This book is incredibly informitive and up to day. We got plenty of great information. it came in new condition and is a great addition to our home.

The BEST! (2009-01-13)

Hands down the #1 book when ttc! I am a straight woman yet this book is truly written for all women trying to conceive. I have a whole library of books on the subject and this is the most in depth and detailed book I've found yet. Tells you basically exactly when to do things and what to watch for. Can't say enough about this book!!!

geared for "reproductively challenged" OR 40+ woman (2008-08-18)

Pros: very informative
Cons: too informative

My partner called this the "bad book" because it scared me. Did not enjoy the writer's tone-scare tactic like.
Was deciding between RACHEL PEPPER'S book and this...choose this one based upon the number of pages (like more pages would make me a better educated mother on this subject).

I was WRONG.

Since then I have ordered RACHEL PEPPER'S "Ultimate Guide"
LOVE IT!
She has a more relaxed feeling throughout
I found the snip-its of Real Stories from different lesbians & their experiences in every step of the conception process to be almost like a support group feel-encouraging you through this exciting journey.

AMAZING BOOK!! (2007-05-27)

This book is fantastic - gives you all the details from when babies are just a mear thought, to when the real little munchkin is in your arms... All the details you don't normal hear about when speaking with doctors etc. This is a womans real life account of her own experiences and what she went through - it's so easy to read you feel as if you are sitting there with a friend chatting for hours.
Well worth the purchase - it provides you with contacts/groups/places to go all listed at the back - it would be great if I could find a book like this for a lesbian mother to be in Australia. AMAZING BOOK!!! THANK YOU!!

Alternative Conception (2007-05-21)

Any woman, lesbian or straight, who wants to conceive will benefit from reading this book. You'll find out about alternative treatments to help you conceive.

In the Womb: Witness the Journey from Conception to Birth through Astonishing 3D Images

Authors: Peter Tallack
Publisher: National Geographic
Publication date: 2006-09-26
ISBN: 142620003X
Pages: 160
Rating:
Price: $25.00

Imagine being able to observe with astonishing clarity a child's delicate features as they evolve over the course of a pregnancy, or witness the complex behavior of new human life in utero. Now we can, thanks to the advent of innovative 3D and 4D imaging technologies that provide a powerful diagnostic tool for doctors and cast vivid light on our earliest development—and a profound new way for parents to bond with their babies on a deeper emotional level.

Combining more than 140 images of life-like models based on the latest science, computer-generated illustrations, and 3D ultrasound images with an uplifting, informative text, In the Womb is a week-by-week chronicle of the mysterious, magical progress from embryo to fetus to full-term infant.

Each spread features a central image and information about that particular stage as well as brief commentary explaining what we know and how we know it. For example, at 24 weeks we watch a fetus open and close her eyes, display facial expressions resembling a grimace and a frown, and stick out her tongue (no one has yet established exactly why). And during the last trimester, we learn, she experiences REM sleep and can hear loud noises through the fluids of her mother's body—a first hint of the world that awaits outside the womb.

Based on National Geographic's acclaimed television program, originally aired in 2005 and soon to be supplemented with two more 2-hour segments, In the Womb is the perfect gift for expectant parents and a fascinating perspective for anyone captivated by the miracle of life.

Not the right book if you're looking to admire what's going on in the womb (2010-05-18)

So if you're an expectant individual looking to really admire the MIRACLE of the process, you won't find that in this book.

The word EVOLUTION is mentioned all the time: how this part of growing fetus witnesses our monkey roots, and that part makes us very similar to fruit flies... This robs the reading of the feelings of divinity, magic or God's plan.

Constant references to fetal abnormalities. For instance, the author is explaining how a certain tube closes up in a growing fetus - and there is the obligatory addition that "well, if it doesn't close right, the baby will have this and that sickness", etc. 30% of the book is about what can go wrong.

Buy this if you want a very cold-bloodied, level-headed, "no-miracle" outlook on the "process".

The book is informative.

perfect gift for the new parents (2009-12-05)

This book was the perfect gift for the new parents. They love looking every week to see how their new one is progressing. Your service was perfect as well!

What every mother-to-be should see (2009-10-23)

This book describes in detail what is happening to the mother's body and inside the womb with the baby. Focusing on all medical aspects that aren't visible to the naked eye. It was very thorough- tons of microscopic pics(yeah-real pics) and pics of the baby in all stages. Talks some about twins and some things that can go wrong, but it explains why. Has discriptions and pictures almost week by week. Easy to read, even though they have proper names from medical terminology. The national geographic in the womb movie is awesome too. I bought this book through Amazon, after falling in love with the information it provided when I checked it out from the library. I bought it new, something I don't particularly like to do(buying used is better for the environment, and a budget) but I figure I will pass this down the family line, and I wanted one in perfect shape- which all amazon books are in (at least the ones that are ordered directly through amazon.)

The best book for 'trying-to-conceive' couples! (2009-09-18)

This book is the best one for walking you through the fertilization process with real pictures and the latest information. It goes all the way through to the birth showing in real life what baby looks like in different stages of developement. It is not the best for walking you through pregnancy issues and concerns, to get the best one for that (in my opinion), do a search for the book 'Your Pregnancy Week by Week'. This book is the perfect companion for that one.

Excellent (2009-06-22)

The book was in great condition. It was exactly what I was looking for. It had pictures that I was able to share with my other children on the progress and growth of the baby at different stages.

Navigating the Land of If: Understanding Infertility and Exploring Your Options

Authors: Melissa Ford
Publisher: Seal Press
Publication date: 2009-05-05
ISBN: 1580052622
Pages: 336
Rating:
Price: $16.95

Author of the extremely successful blog Stirrup Queens and Sperm Palace Jesters, Melissa Ford presents readers with a guide for navigating the complex world of infertility. The Land of If got its name not only because “IF” is the abbreviation for “infertility” in the online world, but also because there are so many “ifs” inherent in being here. No stranger to the Land of If herself, Ford shares her hard-earned knowledge and insights, helping couples struggling with infertility understand the lingo, learn the details doctors tend to leave out, and keep their emotional sanity despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Navigating the Land of If gives the nitty-gritty on injections, rejections, biting your tongue during happy parent-to-be conversations, and trying not to cry over baby shower invitations. With chapters that include how-to’s for same-sex couples, and present adoption or remaining child-free as plausible alternatives, Ford tells you exactly what you need to know, from one infertile to another.

Great IF book! (2010-03-23)

I really enjoyed this book. It was very helpful and articulated a lot of difficult feelings about 'infertility' that are hard to explain often.. Also a very easy read, the author feels approachable.. that's refreshing for a fertility book as so many of those can be dry reads. I didn't like how her "fun tips and side notes" kept interrupting the flow of the chapters though, often you would have to turn a page and then turn back to read the tip, then turn forward again to continue on in the normal chapter.. that got annoying after a while. So, the content is great, just the formatting could have used a little work.

An excellent emotional support book (2010-02-15)

I have read enough books to have a decent grasp on what is involved in the various treatments offered for fertility. This is the only book that has directly addressed the emotional aspect associated with each procedure and with the entire process.

Thanks to the author for admitting that this "painless procedure" crap is just that... crap. Every single procedure has some level of pain associated, both physical and emotional. When you are tired of everyone minimizing your experience, this is the book that will help.

Witty, Informative and Well Written! (2010-01-27)

I've not experienced infertility issues myself, but I'm a reader of Melissa Ford's blog and really enjoy her honest and earthy writing style. This book gave me lots of insight into the infertility side of things, and was an enjoyable and informative read. Very well researched and super-duper helpful.

This is THE go to book for Iffers. (2010-01-07)

I just finished this book, and I LOVED it. Its real. Like, its not some fancy medical journal, written by someone who has never experienced infertility. It all comes from one of our own. And it just solidifies that we are not alone. I loved the letter from Melissa, in the back of the book. I may very well end up using it.

I also plan on buying another copy and giving it to a friend of mine who has just started out on her journey...

I highly recommend reading this book. Whether you yourself are experiencing infertility, or someone you know is..this book has something for you.

Good, not great for unexplained repeat miscarriage (2010-01-04)

I'm a long-time blog reader of a number of infertility blogs. I happily bought this book for my sister, who was undergoing treatment for repeat miscarriage (RM). Perhaps the hype from the blogosphere built it up too much.

The pluses- it is a handy overview if you're new to the world of infertility, better for those who have trouble getting pregnant than those who struggle to stay pregnant.

The minuses- Her advice about generally trying not to worry when you do get pregnant is at best insensitive for those with RM. And also inaccurate. If you've had 3 miscarriages, and you're over 30, - your chances of another miscarriage are pretty high. She also repeats some irritating misinformation commonly thrown around in the popular press. There is nothing magic about age 35 where fertility suddenly drops off and risk of downs syndrome spikes. Its a steady change over time.

While these issues may seem petty, i'd posit they are no more petty than a number of the issues she is very sensitive and thorough about.

Many Questions Answered (2009-12-23)

Donor Conception was presented to my husband and me as a possible answer to our infertility. This book was suggested as a way to do a little more research on the topic.

I had no idea that this was such a popular form of infertility treatment. The woman at the bookstore who ordered the book for me- even admitted to me that her daughter was the result of DI. We had a 15 minute conversation and I left the store in shock and surprise.

I still don't have an answer, but I don't think there is a book that could pinpoint every concern with assurance for or against this type of treatment. I enjoyed the book thoroughly and finished within a day's time. I most enjoyed that the majority of the focus was on the children themselves. How the children reacted to learning their origins. I think truth is the most important aspect of any relationship- especially parenting. Children grow up to be adults and deserve the dignity and respect of being told about their origins.

This book focuses mostly on the need for children to be told at an early age and that they should have access to information pertaining to their "biological" fathers or mothers- in case they're interested in establishing a relationship with them as adults. As for me, I'm still on the fence about whether or not this is the path for us.

Making a Bad Situation Worse (2004-08-02)

Anyone who is interested in reading this book is likely faced with some pretty tough decisions. I would not suggest buying this book. It is written with a very one-sided point of view. The author includes only "proof" that supports her opinions.

donor conception (2003-10-03)

I found this book the best I had ever read regarding donor conception. It covered so many of the issues that I needed to think about such as why we should tell our children the truth about their conception and what we will need to get for them in the way of information about their donor.
The clinic we went to didn't tell us a fraction of what this book has in it.
It should be a must read for anyone thinking of using donor conception, those of us who have kids and all the doctors, nurses etc who work in the area.

More Info than most other books (2009-07-08)

I have read many books thus far in my TTC journey. I have read all of the most popular ones and came across this one while browsing in a book store. This book has a lot of information that my other books do not have. It gives many tips, and not just the tips that you can find on the internet. I didn't want to spend more money on another book, but this one is well worth it. I like how it gives you specific vitamin suggestions and tells you exactly how much of each one to take. In addition, it has you go through your medical history and see if you may have any issues in your way of getting pregnant. Truly, this is a great resource.

    positive and informative (2009-02-01)

I wanted to know everything about becoming pregnant all the way
to giving birth. I actually had purchased this book about 7 years
ago, second hand, and gave it to my best friend who was having
her first baby. She thanked me so much and said it was the most
informative and easy to understand book she has read. She would
recommend it to anyone giving birth.....

    This book is a life-saver (2009-02-01)

If it weren't for this book, I would not have had my now 10-year-old girl. I was trying to get pregnant for the longest time without any success. Reading this book brought me to seek out Dr. Lauersen and along with his great medical care, his compassion and beliefs, I was finally able to experience what most women take for granted. I became pregnant and was able to deliver the most beautiful, healthy baby girl.

    great information (2008-12-10)

I read this book years ago while having trouble conceiving. It was full of usefull information. 20 years and three kids later I would still recommend this book.

    Great and Informative (2008-12-03)

This book is very informative and easy to understand. I have passed this book onto friends who had problems getting pregnant. After following the advice given in this book they became pregnant. I recently gave this book to my daughter who had been trying to become pregnant for quite a long time, and four months ago she too became pregnant.
I highly recommend this book to any couple trying to become pregnant.

    Not Anything "Special" (2010-04-14)

I held this book to a higher standard because I saw it was used at Harvard Medical School but when it came I was a bit disappointed. Maybe I expected too much for such a modest price. But, then again, maybe the simplicity of the book was the reason for such a low price. The book is very informative but I found many of the illustrations to be too small and a bit difficult to peruse.

    What a find! (2010-03-05)

Having recently taken a sonography course without it, I can say that this book would have enhanced my experience 100%.

    Excellent! (2009-11-10)

I was very pleased with the book I received, it was in perfect condition and arrived in a very timely manner. Thank you!!

    River Falls Books (2009-02-10)

The book itself was fine, it did have one page that was slightly wrinkled, but the service left much to be desired. I ordered my book on January 5, 2009. I received an email the following day saying the book would be shipped either the 6th or 7th and I could expect to receive it between January 12 and 28. On January 28, at 5pm, I still hadn't received my book and was quite annoyed, so I sent an email to River Falls Books. They responded saying that the post office didn't recognize our zip code, and they had sent an email telling me that. We have never had problems receiving mail, but we live on the border of two cities, and our zip code is used mainly for the neighboring city, so I could understand if the city and zip didn't match, but why was the zip code itself unrecognizable? The reason I really had a problem is because my job is to take care of the internet orders at the quilt shop I work at, so I know how this should work. And our policy is that if there is a problem with the order, we call or email at least every other day, until we hear back from the customer, and if we never hear back, we refund them their money. River Falls Books only sent one email that more than likely went straight to my junk folder, and when they didn't get a response, did not try to contact me again by email or phone, and also did not refund my money. To me, that is just irresponsible business. If you can't deliver on what you say you will, and you can't reach the customer, at least give them their money back.

    beautiful pictures (2008-08-22)

The book had some beautiful pictures of developing babies and will without a doubt instill a respect for life from the beginning of conception. However, the amniocentesis section implied that a choice was possible and many will interpret that possibility as being moral as well. The authors seem like very Christian people and should have stated that children with genetic diseases, whether born or unborn, deserve the right to life like everyone else.
