New York star chef Tom Colicchio said it best: The Food & Wine Magazine’s Wine Guide is “like having a sommelier with you” every time you choose a wine. And the new 2008 edition is the best yet! Brought to you by America’s most trusted and popular publication on the pleasures of the table, this authoritative book is now even more user-friendly than before. It features two major sections: Old World and New World, with wine-producing countries organized alphabetically in each. New York wine expert Jamal A. Rayyis rates nearly 1,500 wines from all the world’s major wine-producing regions, spanning the traditional giants—California, France, and Italy—to the exciting up-and-coming names in South America, Australia, Portugal, and Eastern Europe. Written with a minimum of “wine speak,” Rayyis’s ratings are concise, clear, and include all price ranges, with an emphasis on wines that offer the best value for the dollar. In addition, the 2008 version is loaded with special features, including an invaluable Food & Wine Pairing Chart, a Bargain Wine Finder, and a Wine Tasting Guide. 1 customer reviews Useful book. February 23, 2008 This is the second edition of this book we have purchased. It is not comprehensive but is easy-to-read, portable and very useful. Appropriate for persons with less or more knowledge of wine. |

How sweet it is! A years worth of delicious easy to follow recipes for the simple treat that has become chic! Full color photography and recipes are taken from the popular book, 500 Cupcakes. A variety of recipes are included from classics to new favorites even some on special diets. 1 customer reviews Very disappointing!. January 29, 2008 From the cover photo, I thought this calendar would have different DECORATED cupcakes for each day. In reality, not only are the cupcakes not shown as decorated, but each day is certainly NOT a different cupcake. For instance, Jan. 26-27 (weekend) was spinach & pine nut muffins, Jan. 28th was again spinach & pine nut muffins but added black olives and Jan. 29 was -- you guessed it -- spinach & pine nut muffins with parmesan. Most of the cupcakes all start with the same "basic recipe," but just add one ingredient. I haven't looked at all 366 pages, but just skimming through, I only see about 5 decorated cupcakes. BORING! |

2 customer reviews A Calendar That's Useful Even When the Year is Over. March 6, 2008 I really like this calendar a lot, and will save many of the cards for my permanent recipe collection. For now, it sits on my desk at work so I can see the date and flip through the recipes when I'm on a break and looking for cooking inspiration. It seems no matter what I'm looking for, I find it here. ( The Chicken Adobo and Cold Noodles with Sesame or Peanut Sauce are particularly fantastic.) The recipes are varied, tasty, inspiring, and keyed to the seasons. Quite often, I flip through the cards to look for cooking ideas, tuck a card or 2 in my purse and swing by the market on the way home. Really really convenient! Bittman's How to Cook Everything also works for me because his style is all about maximum flavor with minimum effort. I was glad to see that there's going to be a 2009 How to Cook Everything calendar. By the way - if you want to see what the cards look like there's a picture of one on the 2009 How to Cook Everything Calendar Amazon page. Bon Appetit! Disappointing. March 2, 2008 Not much of a calendar. It is just a big stack of recipe cards that happen to have two days/dates at the top of them. The recipes don't seem to be very simple or appealing to me. |

| EatingWell 2008 Wall Calendarby: EatingWell Magazine, Photographs by Ken Burris publisher: Eating Well, Inc. released: 2007-08-01 ISBN: 0974315311 $10.95 | Description
While fruits and vegetables may come and go with each season, their fresh flavor is captured in these photographs created exclusively for EatingWell Magazine, where good taste meets good health. From the sweetness of kiwi to the spicy zing of chile peppers, each photo provides a feast for the eye. Enjoy a year of eating well with monthly quotes, nutrition nuggets and recipe suggestions. 2 customer reviews Quality of Paper Leaves Something to be Desired. October 7, 2007 Colorful photography throughout the Eating Well 2008 calendar, but the thickness of the paper seems skimpy. I wonder why the publisher used a gray tint on the Saturday and Sunday columns--not attractive. My purchase last year of the Georgia O'Keeffe 2007 calendar set a standard for high quality. In short, a somewhat disappointing purchase. Helpful, beautiful and provoking. August 6, 2007 This calendar not only looks beautiful with images reminding you what is in season and the most delicious month by month, it is put together in such a way that is more art with a purpose than just something you tack on your wall to remind you how far away Friday is. It's going to be a great gift for everyone I know! And, after 2008, the images will make for strong, beautiful, mouthwatering reminders for the months to come. I'll be keeping mine! |
