Mom's Family Calendar 2011

Author: Sandra Boynton
Publisher: Workman Publishing Company
Publication date: 2010-05-15
ISBN: 0761157379
Pages: 36
Rating:
Price: $12.99

The 17-month calendar that keeps Mom and the whole family organized, Mom's Family Calendar marries the organizational powers of a planner with the utter cuteness of Sandra Boynton's animal charactersthose lovable hippos and cows, pigs, chickens, and dogshopping, dancing, and skipping through the grids. The grids run vertically, with five columns across the top (one for each family member) and the days of the month running down the left-hand side. There's plenty of room to write in every person's activities for each day, and Mom and Dad can easily see who's doing what, when. Includes a drop-down storage pocket, 500 stickers, and a write-on, wipe-off magnetic phone list to hang on the fridge. This is Family Central, with a big Boynton smile.

Best Calendar (2010-09-07)

This is the best calendar in the world. I have 5 children and trying to keep everyone's schedule is very tough. I've used this calendar for the past 5 years and wouldn't ever try another. The boxes are big enough for everything I need to put in them and everyone gets their own column so I just need to look across the day to see what needs to happen that day, which is how I live, day to day. I would recommend this to every mom, whether one kid or 6 (although there are only 5 columns).

Perfect Family Calendar (2010-09-06)

This is the perfect family calendar. It works great for our family of 4 and there is still another slot. This is the third time I have purchased this calendar and I plan to keep buying them.

great (2010-09-02)

I just got this and I like it a lot has lots of space to write and is big enough for everyone to read.

Awesome Calendar!!! (2010-08-28)

LOVE this calendar! I was struggling to stay on top of all of our to do's but with this thing it is no longer a challenge. Love the stickers as well....makes it look quite organzied! :D

The Best way to organize (2010-08-23)

I've used this planner for my family for years. We find it gives everyone enough space each day for all our activities and is a nice clear visual reminder to us all of where we're supposed to be and when. Couldn't do without it.

Out on the Porch Calendar 2011

What could be better than this? Out on the Porch is a year of pure serenity and relaxation. Every month, the good life beckons: the pleasure of putting up your feet, sipping a glass of cold lemonade, spending time with a book or perhaps with a friend in breezy conversation. And oh, the view! A rustic cabin porch in Michigan looks out over lush green woods. A sun-dappled California porch is the perfect spot for tea. And in Maine, a pretty white porch is made especially inviting with a wicker swing and overstuffed pillows. Accompanying the full-color photographs are beguiling porch quotes from literature.

Being Home: Discovering the Spiritual in the Everyday

Authors: Gunilla Norris, Greta Sibley
Publisher: HiddenSpring
Publication date: 2002-01-02
ISBN: 1587680149
Pages: 96
Rating:
Price: $14.00

This classic book of meditations is an eloquent celebration of the spirituality of everyday objects and activities. Daily routines such as making the bed, reading the newspaper, sweeping the floor, and cooking supper are illuminated by examining their relationship to the Divine. Beginning with the first stirrings of consciousness in the morning, passing through the ordinary tasks of a day at home, and ending with bedtime benediction, Gunilla Norris gently reminds us that nothing is too common to speak to us. In the tradition of lectio divina, each meditation's subject is closely, contemplatively examined.

Being Home is not only a beautiful collection of household meditations but also an important essay on how and why we should work toward simplicity-materially, socially, and spiritually.

The meditations are complemented by Greta Sibley's small photographs of familiar objects, which both mirror and interpret the text.

The intro is the best part (2007-06-05)

I enjoyed this book and the photography in it. But honestly, some of the poetry just seemed a wee bit contrived to me... as if Norris HAD to find something holy in the act of locking a door or shoveling.

There are parts of it that are very well written, I love reading her prefaces and such in all her books. And parts of the actual prose was meaningful for me. But I'm glad it was just a library book.

A note: I got this book thinking it spoke to a strictly Catholic spirituality... it does not. Elements of her writing lead me to believe there was a Catholic influence but she speaks in much more universal tones... even new-agey at times.

Still there is nothing TOTALLY objectionable to most faiths unless one is offended by her referring to her "single-celled ancestors."

I was still able to glean some nice meditation points from this book.

inspiring guide (2007-05-18)

This book not only is an accessible guide to the practice of savoring the moment, but it is written and illustrated so beautifully that just reading it is a spiritual pleasure. As a minister, I distribute it to beginners in spiritual practice and also enjoy re-reading it myself.

A beautiful meditation on the real meaning of home (2005-01-26)

Beautiful to read and to look at, BEING HOME is a celebration of the sacred ordinary and the domestic arts. I have given copies away as housewarming gifts, and continue to refer to my own well-loved copy again and again, whenever I need a gentle reminder to appreciate the gifts of being home. In Norris's eyes, the simplest household objects become holy icons, and the most ordinary "chores" become acts of reverence. She makes us view our surroundings with new eyes. If you're a homebody who longs to find words to express the soul of the domestic arts, this book is for you.

Will not use in 2011 (2010-08-17)

After many years of using this brand of calendar I will not re-purchase for the following year. The new feature of writing the names only once leads to a calendar of uneven weight causing it to hang poorly, and limits how you use the pocket as bigger items cover your name list. I also think this new design led to the problem of pages coming unstapled. Other magnetic Avalanche calendars do still feature the full calendar page, but do not have the days divided for family members so I'm off to a new brand until Avalanche corrects the problems with this design.

great calendar (2010-02-11)

I love this calendar, it is so handy to have on refrigerator. But I think the price is a little high.

Better than Busy moms plan it (2010-01-30)

I had the old busy moms planner calendar the last 3 years in a row, heard so many bad reviews I decided to try this one this year, it is just as good if not better. It is also a grown up version of the busy moms calendar. Great organizer and plenty of room for all activities, and you only have to write everybodys name once on the calendar instead of every week.

Second Year Purchasing Same Calendar (2009-12-27)

I just love this calendar. I am one of those people that doesn't like writing on unlined things. So this works great and I love that it has the magnet bar to hang on my fridge...since I look at it every day I never forget whats going on!

Excellent family planner and calendar! (2009-10-09)

I love this calendar! I can fit each family member on it and keep track of all our daily activities and appointments. Between band, scouts, school activities, birthday parties and Dr. appointments it is hard to keep track of who needs to be where and when, but this calendar planner makes it so much easier to do that. I like that it now comes in different syles. If you have a busy family then this calendar is a must!

While its seeds make a delightful snack and a remarkably useful oil, the sunflower is more a feast for the eyes. Native to the American continent, and immortalized in a series of Vincent van Gogh paintings, the sunflower plant is adored for its fulsome yellow-rayed flower and faithful following of the sun. Admire this incomparable plant with a Sunflowers wall calendar.
